I look after a fleet of 40 handsets. For the last 4 years my company has been using windows mobile devices (couldn’t talk my MD into buying the Blackberrys I wanted and so had to gradually sneak wmd’s in instead). The biggest single complaint I get is that the battery life of their xda/kjam/SP5/mda/touch etc, was rubbish and that they often had to give the device an extra charge during the day. No matter what settings I tweaked nothing really helped. After looking at many reviews and searching the internet I eventually homed in on the E71 and dared to hope that I had found the answer to my prayers. I ordered my first E71 last week and found a user to trial it for me ‘on the road’.

When it arrived I was gob smacked by its slender beauty, my first thought being that even when in the (very fine) leather case it was still only half the size of the unsheathed (and unprotected!) mda varios we use – heck, my users might even use the case and look after the device a bit better! Plus point #1. In addition, although I’m more concerned with functionality and reliability than style – placing this device next to any of our other handsets instantly made them look like museum pieces.

Next, after putting in the SIM and charging, came the task of configuring the device to work with our Exchange Mail Server. It’s a little different to using Window Mobile 6, but the details required are all the same, so in no time at all the phone was configured and ready for use! After just one afternoon spent marvelling at the intuitive functionality and ease of use of the device I had placed an order for a second E71 (albeit prompted by another user’s MDA vario giving up the ghost!)

So how did my trial user get on? Well, he is very happy that his company mobile can now get a signal at his home address!! (Previously he would need to swap his SIM into a spare old nokia handset). He has been travelling to the US and Germany from the UK this week and so far the phone has worked flawlessly for 4 days on just a single charge (Allelujah!). This is definitely going to make my road warriors lives easier (and mine too!).

I could go on and on but suffice is to say that for people managing a corporate fleet of windows mobile devices and thinking of trying the E71, they can happily place their highest expectations in this device and not be disappointed.

Negatives? The only device related one I can think of is that the shiny bodywork picks up smears and fingerprints like crazy, so I imagine people will think you have ocd as you struggle to keep it unblemished. And the other negative...? well, now all my users are going to want one…

Hi there.......bought the phone about a week ago. Initially found it very slim, classy. Though the performance is too good there are some things to see whether u as a user would be happy with. One it is a invitation to fingerprints/smudges. The more you clean it the more you want to clean it after some use. If this is a non issue...well ignore. The keypad is small, though looks sexy would take time to get used to. If you have thick fingers...god help you. otherwise a pleasure to use. Third it you interchange the sim card...again god help you. Once inserted it becomes very difficult to remove. Fourth though it is not a music phone, it has a 2.5mm jack so dump all your classy headphones. A small thing but the rubber caps on the usb slot gets stuck and comes off.
Now that i have split hair let me tell you one thing....IT IS THE BEST NOKIA MOBILE I HAVE EVER OWNED........PERIOD !
